The Renault Megane RS is the UK’s go-to hot hatch on the road and the circuit. With motorsport DNA and razor-sharp handling, it’s the perfect car to mess around with. Whether you’re preparing for Cadwell Park or just need to sharpen your B-road skills, these are the top 7 upgrades to take your Megane RS to new heights.

Top 7 Renault Megane RS Mods

Performance Exhaust System

An aftermarket exhaust does not just deliver aggressive sound but also unleashes horsepower. Utilise a decat or sports cat for track use, but do not forget UK MOT regulations for road use.

With the Megane 3 RS having force induction they see the most power gains from decats compared to naturally aspirated engines.

ECU Remap or Tuning Box

Increase power and torque with an ECU remap tailored to your set-up. 30–50bhp increases are standard, especially when combined with supporting mods.

Make sure you go to someone reputable, use our directory to find a vetted tuning company near you.

Intercooler Upgrade

Track cars tend to heat soak on the track due to warmer IAT. A bigger, front-mounted intercooler lower intake temperatures and keeps power levels consistent lap after lap, ensuring the longevity of your engine.

A bigger intercooler would be recommended for any Megane RS who are going to be pushing more power no matter if you are going on track or not.

Suspension Upgrades

Lowering springs or a complete coilover kit greatly improve cornering and responsiveness. Choices like Bilstein or KW are popular among Megane RS owners.

Once coilovers are installed it is always best to get them properly setup and dialled in. Depending on the use of the car you may not be getting the most out of your coilovers if you don’t.

Lightweight Wheels & Sticky Tyres

Lightening unsprung weight improves acceleration, braking and handling. Combine light alloys with high-performance tyres like Michelin PS5 or semi-slicks for track days.

Tyres offer the biggest change to any car going on track for the money, no matter if they are a fully built track weapon or bone stock.

Brake Upgrades

Track and high-speed road driving needs better brakes. Upgrade to braided lines, high-spec pads (like EBC Yellowstuff or Ferodo DS2500), and a good set of discs.

A good brake setup means you can stay on track longer and brake later before you start to suffer with brake fading issues.

LSD (Limited Slip Differential)

An LSD will drastically improve the handling of a Megane RS on and off the track. Although it’s chassis is extremely sophisticated and suffers with very little torque steer, anyone who is serious about going on track then a grippier LSD should be on the list of mods.

Aero Enhancements

The Megane RS is an already potent car out of the factory, but these changes make it an honest-to-goodness track car. Prioritize based on your usage, budget and goals – and always check on compatibility and UK MOT regs.
