BMW’s factory oil cooler struggles when power levels rise or during demanding track sessions, with owners reporting temperatures climbing beyond 240°F (115°C). High oil temps not only sap performance but can also trigger limp mode or, worse, cause long-term engine damage. The CSF #8317 oil cooler was engineered in collaboration with Carbahn to withstand the extra heat from high-output builds, including stroker kits and 1000+ hp applications, while offering improved durability over the vulnerable OEM unit. Key Engineering Upgrades 33% Larger Core – Increased thickness (60mm vs. OEM 45mm) with three additional rows of cooling, boosting capacity by 0.5 quarts (0.47L). Heavy-Duty Bar & Plate Core – Replaces the fragile OEM tube-and-fin design for maximum strength and improved heat dissipation. CNC-Machined Connection Blocks – TIG-welded for extreme durability under high boost and track abuse. TIG-Welded End Tanks – Stronger and more reliable than OEM brazed construction, minimising the risk of leaks. Optimised Cooling Design – 14 cooling tubes and 15 fin rows (vs. OEM’s 11 tubes and 12 rows) for greater thermal efficiency.
