Joke to Reality
BMW posted images on April 1, 2025, of an M3 Touring with its body fatted out. Covered in full GT3 spec bodywork, giant aero, flared arches, splitter, and diffuser a direct link to the M4 GT3.
The publicity stunt attracted global attention and sparked a “make it happen“ frenzy of posts. Incredibly, by 3rd of April the behind-the scenes shots revealed an actual build by Belgian designer Simon von Broich. A full conversion of a standard M3 Touring to GT3 EVO spec, with bespoke body panels, vents, and aggressive stance.

How It Was Made
This wasn’t a CGI mockup. Wide fenders, rear door vents, side skirts, roof scoop and engine cold-air inlets were all hand-built from scratch. The aggressive styling was directly lifted from the M4 GT3 EVO, creating an uninterrupted but radical redesign. The build still retains functional roots from the Touring but now sports a 100% track-worthy appearance.
Reddit commenters who witnessed the test mule typed: “It’s just an M3 Touring with a bodykit and suspension from the GT3 bolted in…” but it is much more than that!

What It Means. and Doesn't
Despite the engineering feat, BMW Motorsport still has not homologated this model for racing. While the M4 GT3 EVO is already racing, a BMW Touring GT3 race car isn’t touching tracks officially.
Nonetheless, this build cements the Touring’s status as the perfect vehicle for track-conversions. It is also very reminiscent of older estate touring cars like the Volvo 850 and Skoda Octavia.
Why the M3 Touring GT3 EVO Matters
Blurs the line between wagons and race cars. A G81 Touring draped in GT3 ferocity is a dramatic, functional racecar look is the best showcase of the platform’s potential yet. The wide arches now merge with overflared bodywork, solving fitment quirks not addressed by BMW’s factory
Could inspire one-off and aftermarket builds. If independent designers can do it, high-net-worth collectors and bespoke shops could well follow soon—and with fan interest running high, it’s hardly unlikely.

BMW‘s M3 Touring GT3 EVO was maybe started out as a April Fool‘s reveal, but it became jaw droppingly real. It is a bold example of design innovation, aftermarket possibility, and a flashback to when manufacturers would race wagons.
Though not likely to be found racing on the Spa or Monza grid, per se, this single one-off inspires fantasy and sometimes that‘s enough. If you have an urge to see a GT3-level station wagon in action, there might not be long to wait before one appears in the form of a custom creation.
